Las Cavernas del Rio Camuy

Hoy como todos los demás dias, ha estado lloviendo. Decidiendo que era major ir a otro sitio que caminar el Viejo San Juan bajo un agüacero, nos encaminamos a las cavernas del rio de Camuy. Era nuestra intencion pasar por el radio telescopio mas grande del Caribe, el de Arecibo, pero no nos dio tiempo, se nos hizo tarde para ir a Arecibo.

Las Cavernas del Rio Camuy es una excursión caminada por una cavernas hechas por el río soterrado mas grande, el rio Camuy. Cuidado al caminar, con la lluvia y la humedad el piso es un poco resbaloso. La caverna que paseamos se llama la Caverna Clara y se tomó millones de años en formar. Se oye el rio claramente mientras caminamos por las cavernas y veran las fotos que tomamos de estalactitas y estalagmitas. Se acuerdan de la unidad de rocas que estudiamos? Se acuerdan cuales son estalagmitas y cuales son estalactitas? Que clase de rocas son las que se encuentran en las cavernas?

Mañana es mi reunion de ecuela superior y estoy ansiosa de ver a mis compañeros. Saben que muchos de nosotros estudiamos juntos desde Kindergarten?  Trataré de añadir mas información y fotos mañana, pero si no me da tiempo a lo mejor me toma hasta el día despues de Navidad. Espero que estén siguiendome en mi viaje y que busquen las contenstaciones a las preguntas que estoy haciendo. Puede que tenga algo especial para esos estudiantes que tengan las contestaciones correctas.

Today like every day we have been here, it rained. Deciding it would be better to do something else rather than walk the streets of Old San Juan in the rain, we were on our way to the North part of the island to tour the Cavernas del Rio Camuy. We were also going to go to the Observatory and radio telescope in Arecibo (the biggest in the Caribbean) but we ran out of time. Hopefully we can go to it before we leave.

The Cavernas del Rio de Camuy is a walking tour (complete with tour guide and a headset), through an underground cavern made by the largest underground river in the world, the Camuy river. Careful when you are walking though, with all the rain and humidity it gets pretty slippery. The cavern we toured was called Caverna Clara which means clear cavern. You can clearly see the north and south entrances. Guess what I saw? Stalagmites and Stalactites – hundreds of them! Do you remember which one is which? Which types of rocks form in the caverns?

Tomorrow is my high school reunion and I am anxious to see all my friends. Did you know that most of us went to school together since Kindergarten? I will try to update tomorrow, if not, I will not be able to update possibly until after Christmas. I hope you are following along and looking up the answers to the questions. I might have something special for those who have the right answers ;)
